Cranky Crankster

As I write this post at approximately 5:07pm, Missy Pants is peacefully sleeping in her little cow chair. KK and I eat our dinner around 6PM. Missy Pants conveniently chooses to wake up at this time and scream her head off, unless she is held. Lately I have been noticing that she cries a lot when we set her down during the day, and this worries me because I don't want to have the kind of daughter who has to be held at all times. I'm especially worried about when I am back at work next week and need to use at least some of my time in the afternoon to get things done around the house, which I prefer to do without a screaming child in the background.
I stress out all the time about having a child that is not independent and cannot self-sooth. Missy Pants does well in her bassinet at night time- she falls asleep by herself and stays there until I get her up in the morning- it is just during the day time that she puts on her cranky pants. She mostly takes cat naps during the day, and is so cranky from around 4pm to 7pm, on and off. Please, mommies out there, tell me this is normal for a 2 month old! When will she get a routine?? Am I ruining her for life by picking her up every time she cries?? :-/
Oh the joys and scares of being a new momma! I would continue, but someone in the household has decided to exercise her lungs!

Oh heavens NO she isn't old enough to be emotional yet. My MIL use to say don't hold the baby tooo much and she was 2 days old...so I started reading about it and babies have growing spurts causing them to be clingy...lasts a few days and then they are back to normal. But I noticed that when A was criying a lot when she was younger was bc she had gas so Mylican is a great thing. I don't know everything but I do know that now that Miss priss is almost 7mos...she NOW knows that I have set her down and she really screams her head off. This happens around 6 mos. they understand that you put them down but don't yet understand that your coming back...kinda sad!!Your little missy will be fine just love on her and pick her up when she crys she'll only be little once! :)That's what I say!
Oh and yes the leggings are super cute! Babylegs! I'm trying to order some for my squishytushy page!! Enjoy your week!!!

I agree w/ Lindsay. She's still pretty young. I remember feeling the same way as you as I had a SIL who had kids that became attached to her. I think till they're 4-5 month-ish they can start to self-sooth. And babies usually have that cranky hour at night. Mine were usually around the 4-11pm time period. It was pretty predictable but never easy to deal with. Just keep telling yourself it gets better....cause it does. The hardest part if the first three months. Then one day you blink and you find yourself finally settling into a routine.

Hang in there. You're doing GREAT!

Oh my friend, welcome to what is known as the witching hour! Most babies go through a spazzy time around dinner/early evening = Callie included, hence why she goes to bed at 6 or 6:30 pm!

Thankfully, I can say they do grow out of it as Morgan was a beast at that time as well and is now 3 and doesn't do that LOL

I was worried about that whole self soothing too, with both kids. Callie would go to bed in the swing at 2 months and later we'd put her to bed. I was stressed that she wouldn't be able to fall asleep on her own but one day, she just did. She's 5.5 months now and has no problem whatsoever. Don't worry at all about it, if they get to 7 months or so and are concerned about it, there are methods you can use but until then, don't sweat it at all!

Please do not tell me she sleeps through the night or I'll have to get her to speak to Miss 4am Wake Up Call that lives in my house! I was spoiled by Morgan sleeping from 7-7 at 4.5 months!

At this point I don't think it is a cause for concern. She may just realize you are not in the room. B used to do this and I would get out the Baby Bjorn and stick him in it and continue cleaning. It helped and he realized that I was 2feet away and soon I could put him down. Maybe that will help?

I did exactly what andrea did. I put my little one in the baby bjorn and he was fine while I got my chores done in the evening. I think they all go through the 'witching hours' in the evening. I was so stressed he was just attached, but he just wanted to hang with mommy. Not a big deal. Now he is older (almost 7 months) and loves to play with his toys. The older she gets the more 'equipment' you'll have to entertain her. For now, she just wants you to entertain her. Enjoy it while it lasts!!! The chores can wait...

I agree with Linsay too. Kids need some love. She'll be more adaptable then you think. Hey come check out my blog...I gave you an award. :)

Our little one tends to wake up/freak out as soon as we sit down for dinner, too. Crazy how that works!
